Colorado man on meth allegedly fired on police officer with gun in butt cheeks

DENVER, June 18 (UPI) -- A Colorado man who was accused of smoking methamphetamine is now facing attempted murder charges after he was allegedly able to squeeze off two shots at Denver police officers from a gun he had hidden in his butt.

Isaac Vigil was being brought to the police station after DPD officers repeatedly searched him when he somehow managed to open fire. Vigil stopped firing when his gun jammed and officers shot him in the stomach.

The 32-year-old was taken into custody after he was seen smoking meth in a McDonald's parking lot on May 14. Vigil was facing numerous charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia, assault, felony menacing, and possession of a weapon.

It was difficult to search Virgil because he was "violent and aggressive" and "highly agitated," but officers reported that the suspect was patted down three times, according to KUSA.

Prior to the shooting Vigil threatened to shoot the officers several times and claimed that he had been smoking meth for three days. In addition to the handgun, Vigil had two baggies of meth stashed in his "rectal area."

"I conclude that under applicable Colorado law no criminal charges are fillable against Corporal Sisneros," the Denver District Attorney wrote in a letter that was released on Monday. "My decision, based on criminal-law standards, does not limit administrative action by the Denver Police Department, where non-criminal issues can be reviewed, or civil actions where less-stringent laws, rules and legal levels of proof apply."
