COLLEGE PARK, Md., June 5 (UPI) -- After getting turned down by a panda cub, a newly-married Maryland couple is just going to have to grin and bear it.

Panda enthusiasts Sara Glickman and Ben Shlesinger decided to get married and have a panda-themed wedding. Naturally, they decided that it would only be appropriate to have an actual panda in attendance.

Instead of settling for just any bear, Glickman and Shlesinger swung for the fences and decided to invite Washington National Zoo panda cub Bao Bao to attend.

"We actually sent an invite, decorated with panda stickers, to 'Bao Bao and Family' to come to the wedding, adding bamboo as a meal choice on the RSVP card," Glickman told the Huffington Post. "Pandas have played a pretty big part in our courtship/relationship."

Shlesinger proposed to Glickman while they were on a trip to see the pandas at the Toronto Zoo. Their wedding included panda masks, panda cufflinks and a panda cake-topper, so it's not surprising that they wanted Bao Bao in attendance.

"Sadly, she responded that she was unable to attend, but thank you. I get it, she didn't want to steal the spotlight, very sweet of her," Glickman said.
