GWAR frontman David Brockie died at age 50 in March and opening the GWARbar was "one of his last dreams," according to the project's IndieGoGo page. Derks "will be using his 30+ years of restaurant experience to create a menu and cocktail program unlike any other in Richmond and all of the artist of GWAR will be contributing their talents to bring into existence a dinning environment that will make each meal an adventure." The band has already raised more than $6,000 of their $50,000 goal. "I have a lot of foodie friends, but I also have adult friends who have a childish palate," Derks told WTVR when describing the menu. "Food you loved as a kid, but done really well." Fans who really like the band have the option of forking over $10,000 for a private party with GWAR.
