STOCKTON, Calif., May 12 (UPI) -- A California mom had a Mother's Day surprise that was definitely different from breakfast in bed...

According to the Stockton Police Department, an elderly woman spent a portion of Mother's Day chasing after two men who robbed her daughter. When the suspects ripped a gold chain off her daughter's neck, the woman tried to chase them down.

"At that point the victim's elderly mother saw what happened and chased after the suspects yelling for help," Stockton police officer Joe Silva told KFBK.

The men were able to escape into a waiting vehicle, they allegedly fired a gun in the air as they drove off.

"This is probably not how this family planned on spending Mother's Day but we all [have] to remember that all moms -- it doesn't matter how old they are -- always have that instinct in them that when they see something happening to one of their children, they're going to go out and protect them," said Silva.
