SEOUL, March 12 (UPI) -- Seoul's upscale Gangnam District, made internationally famous by Korean pop star Psy's hit "Gangnam Style," opened a road Wednesday dedicated to pop culture.

"K-Star Road," which stretches for more than half a mile in Gangnam, opened Wednesday with sites and interactive activities celebrating Korean pop stars and the "hallyu," the word for the international popularity of Korean cultural exports, Yonhap News Agency reported Wednesday.

The Gangnam District office said the street also features restaurants and cafes frequented by local celebrities and it ends at the SM Entertainment agency building, which officials said will be open to the public once a week.

"We will develop the district as Seoul's key landmark similar to Soho of New York and Marais of Paris by further creating a road for gourmet and fashion," said Shin Yeon-hee, the head of the Gangnam District office.
