NEW YORK, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- New York police said a man was so unimpressed by a mugger that he chased him for five blocks and then half a mile through a subway tunnel.

Police said Joseph McMaster, 52, was standing near an intersection Feb. 9 in the Greenwich Village neighborhood when Jeff Hamm, 54, allegedly snatched $94 cash and a Bic lighter out of his hand, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

McMaster chased Hamm for five blocks to the 1 train station at West Houston, where the chase continued for half a mile in a subway tunnel, police said. Hamm caught up to McMaster when he went back above ground and attempted to hail a cab, police said.

Hamm was charged with robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and trespassing. Police said he is also facing drug charges after he was found to be in possession of marijuana and cocaine.

Court records show Hamm has been arrested for more than 60 times since 1983.
