Bull semen reported stolen from Virginia farm

STAUNTON, Va., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Bull semen was stolen from a Mount Solon, Va., farm some time in late January, the Augusta County, Va., Sheriff's Office reported.

The semen, which was valued at $250 and used, Jean Schofield of North American Breeders, Inc. said, to develop "traits in a herd that you can't get with a herd bull," must be frozen in liquid nitrogen to remain usable.

"It's absolutely no good if it thaws out," she added.

The theft of 10 containers of semen occurred in late January, the (Staunton, Va.) News Leader said Wednesday.

Sheriff Lt. Dennis Back said there was no mention in the incident report of why it was not reported to police until Monday.
