HAUGESUND, Norway, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- A group of Norwegian investors said they are planning a Viking Land theme park to open in 2014.

Odd Erik Salvesen, coordinator of the project, said the investors are seeking to build the $60 million theme park near the Haugesund airport and they project it would draw up to 300,000 visitors to the area per year, The Local.no reported Monday.

"Nothing like this exists anywhere in the world. The project is unique" Salvesen said.

Design firm Itec, which has worked on theme parks including work for Disney, said the park would be centered around the Norse myth of the giant tree Yggdrasil. The park would be separated into sections representing nature, a Viking village and Asgard, the home of the gods.
