HOUSTON, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A man faces charges for allegedly stealing hubcaps from cars parked at a Houston restaurant where a police retirement party was in progress, police said.

Johnny Deleon, 20, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft. He allegedly was in the parking lot of a delicatessen and restaurant Oct. 23, removing the center caps of hubcaps from parked cars while a police retirement party and monthly constables' staff meeting took place inside, deputies said.

When a retired Houston Police Department officer arrived, he confronted Deleon, and moments later about 30 deputies from inside arrived at the scene after hearing the commotion, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday.

Deleon was taken into custody after saying he intended to sell the hubcaps valued at over $400, the newspaper said.
