MELBOURNE, Fla., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said an alleged burglar fell through the ceiling of a pharmacy while officers were at the store responding to an alarm.

Melbourne police said they responded to an alarm at the CVS Pharmacy in the city around 1:30 a.m. Monday, WFTV, Orlando, reported Tuesday.

"They immediately spotted or heard at least noises at first, then they spotted someone trying to come back out of the hatch. That individual fell from that hatch down to the ground," said Sgt. Sheridan Shelley of the Melbourne Police Department.

Police said the suspect, Alex David McBride, 28, was in possession of burglary tools and prescription pills from the pharmacy.

"[Officers] were there within seconds or minutes after he entered the pharmacy. When they fall into your hands like that, it's rare," Shelley said.

Shelley said McBride, who was out on probation for an earlier conviction, was arrested on a burglary charge.
