LUCKNOW, India, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Archaeologists in India say they're searching for treasure in an area identified by a Hindu religious teacher who said a former king appeared to him in a dream.

Vijay Karan Anand, a district magistrate in Uttar Pradesh, said geological and archaeological officials surveyed the area at the site of King Rao Ram Baksh Singh's fort in the state and found evidence of heavy metal buried deep underground, The Telegraph (Britain) reported Friday.

The area was surveyed after Hindu swami Shobhan Sarkar said the king, who was hanged by British colonial forces in 1958, appeared to him in a dream and told him the location of a treasure worth nearly $50 billion.

The Archaeological Survey of India said it plans to dig under a temple on the site of the fort to identify the buried metal.

Interested parties including Navchandi Veer Pratap Singh, a descendant of the king, and officials of the state of Uttar Pradesh have already said they plan to claim at least a portion of any treasure discovered at the site.
