The 55-year-old Dania Beach woman was rescued, a city of Fort Lauderdale news release stated. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported the unidentified woman was about 22 feet above the tracks below and even farther above the waters of the New River. Advertisement Fort Lauderdale firefighters used a ladder to get her safely to the ground, drawing cheers from the crowd of onlookers. "She was just stuck in this Jesus Christ position," Phillip Glazebrook of Fort Lauderdale, who happened to be working nearby. "The woman was frozen and terrified. "I'm sure she must have been in absolute shock to be stuck in that position." WTVJ-TV, Miami, reported the woman was stuck on the upright bridge section for about a half hour starting about 10:45 a.m. EDT. It was unclear why she was on the bridge, which is not open to pedestrians. The TV station said she was wearing pink shirts from the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk. The woman told firefighters she had taken part in the walk earlier in the morning. Advertisement Witness Ashanicka Powell said to her the woman's resolve to hold on symbolized the fight against cancer. "So many people that are ready to give up the fight and still are hanging in there -- that just symbolized that, 'cause she could have let go at any minute and she didn't," Powell said.
