Arlington Heights School District 25 held public tasting events last week for parents and students to sample the new items on the "nutrient-dense" menu, which also includes toasted chickpeas, a turkey meatball soup and a nachos-like dish dubbed the "fiesta scoop," the Chicago Tribune reported Monday. Advertisement Coletta Hines-Newell, the district's food service director, said the aim of the tasting events was to build support for the "envelope-pushing" items and familiarize picky eaters with taste of the healthier options. Hines-Newell said the district has previously offered healthy options, but it stopped serving grilled salmon and baked fish this year due to a lack of interest from students. "We gave up on the fish. We tried for a couple of years. It has not been successful," Hines-Newell said.
