MOSCOW, July 25 (UPI) -- A Moscow zoo announced an albino African hedgehog has given birth to triplets, a rare occurrence in captivity.

The zoo said 2-year-old Marusya, a first-time mother, was brought to the Moscow petting zoo from its facility in Novosibirsk two months ago and gave birth to triplets Tuesday, RIA Novosti reported Thursday.

"Albino hedgehogs don't usually breed in captivity. If people keep a standard hedgehog at home, it might give birth, but to no more than two babies. But we saw the arrival of triplets on July 23," zoo worker Yevgenia Polonskaya said.

The zoo said visitors to its website and social media sites are being asked to suggest names for the babies.
