ROY, Wash., July 19 (UPI) -- A Panda calf, a rare breed of miniature cattle resembling the endangered Chinese bear, was born on a Roy, Wash., farm, its owner said.
The black and white-spotted calf arrived three weeks ago on the farm of John Bartheld, after he artificially inseminated the calf's mother, a miniature Hereford, from an American miniature Beltie bull, the (Olympia, Wash.) Olympian reported Friday.
The male calf, named Peanut, is one of only about 40 worldwide with "perfect panda-like features," the newspaper noted.
It weighed 30 pounds and was 17 inches tall at birth, considerably smaller than a typical newborn cow, and will be about 40 inches tall when fully grown.
