Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe PARKLAND, Fla., June 17 (UPI) -- Horse owners in a Florida town said motorists in the area have taken to trying to startle the animals into throwing their riders as part of an ongoing dispute. Walter Campbell, an attorney for three non-horse-owning households in Parkland, said his clients are suing the city of Parkland for allowing the Pine Hollow horse center to expand in two years, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Monday. Advertisement "It has manure problems and it has nuisance problems," Campbell said. "Horses traveling too close to the roadway, where it makes it a danger for people to drive." Howard Dvorkin, owner of the Pine Hollow horse center, said neighbors have been showing their dissatisfaction with the plans by purposefully honking their horns in an attempt to get the horses to throw their riders. Laura Laramee, 47, was issued a citation by police for screeching her tires and honking her horn alongside four riders, including two young girls, ages 5 and 7. "It should be noted that this incident is one of several similar types of incidents wherein certain residents of The Ranches, including Laura Laramee and her husband, have been reported to be intentionally making loud noises to startle the horses at Pine Hollow," Sheriff's Deputy R.S. Kenny wrote in his report. Advertisement Parkland officials said Florida's Farm Act bars them from regulating or limiting the growth of equestrian communities.
