COLOGNE, Germany, June 10 (UPI) -- A German college student set a world record by diving from a 10-foot diving board 714 times over the course of 24 hours.

Dennis Bettin, 25, a student at German Sport University in Cologne, started his attempt Saturday and took a six hour break in the middle on the advice of doctors, who said he was vomiting and developing bruises on his legs, The Local.de reported Monday.

Bettin said he decided to attempt the diving feat when he opened the Guinness Book of World Records and "had a look and a think about which record I could beat."

"There were a lot of possibilities," he said.
