Unflattering yearbook IDs prompt apologies from school superintendent

TROY, N.Y., June 6 (UPI) -- Officials in New York's Hoosic Valley Central School District are apologizing for a high school yearbook with IDs such as "Creepy smile kid" and "Someone."

Acting Superintendent Amy Goodell characterized the unflattering descriptions as a "non-intentional, honest mistake," and was working to amend the offending pages, the Troy Record reported Thursday.

The track and field page of the 2012-13 yearbook, "Totem Pole," included a caption that names students as "Isolation kid", "Creepy smile kid," "Some tall guy." "Someone" was used multiple times as an identifier.

"The yearbook editor and staff are devastated. Apologies are being made," Goodell said.

"As many books as possible have been held and are being amended," Goodell said in an email. "The yearbook adviser, staff, administration and board of education are very sorry that this occurred."

The Record didn't report how the captions made it through.

The Record said the adviser and the yearbook's editor in chief did not return requests for comment.

Students contacted at the school said they did not know too much about what happened. One student on the track and field team said he was not too concerned about it.
