Police find fleeing suspect under mattress

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis., May 3 (UPI) -- Wisconsin police said a man accused of fleeing from officers was found hiding under a mattress in the basement of an apartment building.

Mount Pleasant Police said Stantavious Sillas, 18, sped off in his car after he was pulled over during the 3:30 p.m. traffic stop Thursday, The (Racine, Wis.) Journal Times reported Friday.

The vehicle fled at high speeds through an apartment parking lot and an officer crashed into an unoccupied parked car, but was not injured.

The man was seeing entering an apartment, but he fled the domicile on foot and was able to avoid apprehension while police were obtaining a search warrant.

A suspicious vehicle was soon spotted in the area and led police to an address where Sillas was found hiding under a mattress in the basement of an apartment building.

Sillas was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless endangerment, obstructing, disorderly conduct.
