Bank robber calls police on himself

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a man called 911 for help, then told responding officers he was planning to rob a bank and had previously robbed two others.

St. Petersburg police said William Kane, 51, called around 10:15 a.m. Friday from outside a Wells Fargo Bank and told officers he was planning to rob the bank due to his drug addiction, the St. Petersburg Times reported Monday.

Police said Kane, who said he was suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts, told them he was behind robberies at a Pinellas Park Chase Bank and a St. Petersburg First Bank during the two previous days.

Kane was arrested on two armed robbery charges. Investigators said he has several prior robbery convictions.
