John De Melo, 28, said he named his restaurant in February after the Japanese word for a form of martial arts but landlord L.G. Plaza filed a lawsuit in July alleging De Melo didn't get permission to put up a sign bearing the name, which the landlord described as provocative, the QMI Agency reported Friday. Advertisement L.G. Plaza said it received complaints about the name from other tenants. Quebec Superior Court Judge Kirkland Casgrain ordered De Melo to hide the signs, leading the restaurant owner to seek a new name for his business. "I think the financial impacts on my company will be positive," said De Melo, who explained he thought the exposure would be good for his eatery.
