SAN DIEGO, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The San Diego Zoo Safari Park announced its elephant population has grown to 13 with the birth of a female pachyderm.

Zoo officials said mother Swazi gave birth to the 205-pound baby at 3:39 a.m. Tuesday with the newborn's older brother, 2 1/2-year-old Macembe, looking on, U-T San Diego reported Wednesday.

Officials said Swazi and the unnamed calf will be kept in a separate yard from the rest of her herd while the newborn learns to nurse and closely follow her mother.
