MURRAY, Texas, July 6 (UPI) -- The wife of a Utah mayor said she was disappointed when residents attending a parade voted in favor of the official keeping his 18-inch handlebar mustache.

April Snarr, who spoke in favor of having her husband, Murray Mayor Dan Snarr, trim his whiskers to a more reasonable length at the city's Fourth of July parade, said residents at the parade voted 2-to-1 in a thumbs up/thumbs down system in favor of him keeping his facial hair at its current length, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Friday.

"It was my one big chance," Snarr said of having her husband trim the mustache.

However, the mustachioed mayor said he would be willing to make the concession of trimming an inch from each side of the 18-inch whiskers.

"I'd be willing to trim an inch off each side," Snarr said. "My original goal was 16 inches to represent my 16 years with the city."

Snarr's fourth and final term as mayor is scheduled to come to an end in a year and six months.
