CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 10 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts restaurant said a lobster was spared the boiling pot after its rare marbled color pattern was recognized.

Jasper White, owner of the Summer Shack restaurant in Cambridge, said the rare calico lobster was spotted in the eatery's 1,200-gallon lobster tank and was taken Monday by scientists from the New England Aquarium, who said the lobster was destined for a New Hampshire research facility, The Boston Globe reported Thursday.

"Calicos are considered a rare color,'' aquarium spokesman Tony LaCasse said. "They used to say 1 in 30 million.''

However, he said the number is being revised after several of the creatures were caught in 2009.
