Feathers fly during Int'l Pillow Fight Day

NEW YORK, April 8 (UPI) -- Pillow fights erupted in major cities around the world to mark the fifth annual International Pillow Fight Day, organizers said.

The pillow fights took place in 115 cities Saturday, including New York City, Taipei, Stockholm and Shanghai, GlobalPost, an online newspaper, reported.

Taiwanese student Jiang Shin-Yu, who attended the brawl in Taipei said it was a great way to relieve stress.

"I am so happy that I finally got to release all my stress today," Shin-Yu said. "There is a lot of pressure on me from my academic work, problems in my relationship and arguments with friends."

In New York City, hundreds of people crowded Washington Square in Manhattan to fight it out in the city's seventh annual Pillow Fight Day, the New York Daily News reported.

"That's real war out there," said Gioele Nunziatini, a 24-year-old Italian tourist. "No alliances, nothing. Just every man for himself."

California pillow fighters said they were a little disappointed in Fresno's event as only about 12 people showed up, The Fresno Bee reported.

"I'm a little disappointed," said Ben Keller, 30, of Fresno. "I expected a little bigger turnout."

Several dozen people showed up to the at Vancouver Art Gallery armed with their pillows, Global News Canada reported.

Rules set there were simple: Stay off the sidewalk and roads and don't hit anyone who doesn't have a pillow.
