Police: Woman hid drugs in dentures

BRADENTON, Fla., March 30 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a woman who was pulled over for having a loud muffler allegedly hid drugs in her dentures.

Manatee County sheriff's deputies said Theresa DeMarco, 56, was pulled over about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bradenton because of the noise made by her muffler and both the driver and passenger Mary Winchell, 36, "appeared extremely nervous," the Bradenton Herald reported Friday.

The deputy searched the car and discovered a hydromorphone pill on Winchell's seat. Winchell was arrested and told the deputy DeMarco was hiding more pills in her dentures.

The deputy confronted DeMarco, who then removed pills from her dentures and swallowed them, the arrest report states.

DeMarco, who was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for evaluation, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. She was ordered held in lieu of $2,000 bond.

Winchell was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was ordered held in lieu of $1,000 bond.
