Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe INDIO, Calif., March 1 (UPI) -- A California couple calling themselves "the Romeo and Juliet of senior citizens" said they set a Guinness World Record with their Leap Day wedding. Lillian Hartley, 95, and longtime sweetheart Allen Marks, 98, married Wednesday in a brief civil ceremony at the Riverside County Administrative Center in Indio, The (Palm Springs, Calif.) Desert Sun reported Thursday. Advertisement The couple said Guinness World Records informed them they broke the world record for largest combined age of a marrying pair. The record keeping organization said the couple will officially take the title once they provide verification of their ages. The previous record was set by a 96-year-old man and his 94-year-old bride in France in 2002. "I don't know what will happen. I want to be together for all eternity, and I'm not taking any chances," Hartley said at her wedding. "We're the Romeo and Juliet of senior citizens."
