Police: Attacker was worried about 'spell'

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a man accused of attacking his girlfriend was concerned she was trying to "cast a spell on him."

Riviera Beach Police officers said the 28-year-old victim told them she had gone to her godmother's house for relationship advice Tuesday and while there, her boyfriend, Rubin Leonard Hugee, 29, showed up and began am argument, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Friday.

The victim and her godmother said Hugee grabbed the victim by the hair, grabbed a knife and said he was going to "kill" her.

Hugee, who admitted to grabbing the woman but denied threatening her with a knife, told deputies the victim's godmother is a "root lady" and he was worried his girlfriend was going to try to "cast a spell on him," the arrest affidavit states.

Hugee was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery.
