Domingo Aranda, 55, is accused of setting fire to the inside of a woman's car when his cigarette caused spilled tequila to ignite. (St. Lucie Sheriff's Office)
Aranda said he was trying to get clothes out of the car at the time.
However, officers said Aranda admitted to threatening to torch the woman's house during five phone calls he made to the victim.
Aranda was charged with second-degree arson and burglary of an unoccupied vehicle.
