PRESTON, England, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Not only is it the happiest time of the year, December is the most popular month to get engaged, an online jeweler in Britain says.

The Beautiful Co. in Britain says a high proportion of men pop the question with an engagement ring in December and while there are no official statistics about engagements, research indicates it is the most popular time for an engagement.

In the United States, Christmas and New Year engagements are increasing in popularity, and jewelers report an increase in the sales of engagement rings in December. Twelve percent of all engagement rings are bought in the run up to Christmas, National Jeweler Magazine said.

In addition, the American Wedding Study from U.S. Brides magazine found 18 percent of all U.S. couples get engaged in December.

However, choosing the engagement ring is no longer just left to the man; the Brides' study found 68 percent of women provided input into the ring choice and 21 percent of brides-to-be selected their own engagement ring.
