CANBERRA, Australia, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Australian official in charge of broadcasting standards apologized for using profanity on live TV during children's viewing hours.

Communications Minister Stephen Conroy dropped the F-bomb Monday while answering a question about the risk for investment in the country at the National Press Club in Canberra, the Melbourne Herald Sun reported Tuesday.

"If a tax goes up, God, that is sovereign risk. But if a tax goes down, [expletive] fantastic," Conroy said.

The event was broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Corp. ahead of "Meerkat Manor," a popular children's show starring puppets.

Conroy issued an apology for using the foul language.

"It was completely accidental and I sincerely regret doing so. I apologize for any offense I may have caused," he said.
