CHELYABINSK, Russia, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A Russian court has rejected a request by an 80-year-old man who sought an annulment because he did not remember getting married.

The man, whose name was not released, lived with his wife since 1974 and they broke up in 2008 when the relationship deteriorated. When the man, from Russia's Urals region, recently discovered a marriage certificate, he requested an annulment at a court in the Chelyabinsk region, RIA Novosti reported.

"The appellant views this marriage as invalid as he doesn't remember giving his approval, attending the marriage registration ceremony or signing the marriage certificate," the court said in a statement. "He has no recollection of any of these events."

The court rejected the request.

The man said he didn't want to divorce the woman because he didn't want to split the apartment they shared prior to their breakup.
