Don't try this at home -- or elsewhere!

In Colorado Springs, Colo., don't try the old "thought you were a burglar trick" to dodge getting busted by your girlfriend.

Keith Gaylor tried that one, The (Colorado Springs) Gazette reported.

What Gaylor first tried to do was set up a date through CraigsList, which is, after all, generally acceptable in this day and age.

The problem is Gaylor's girlfriend came home unexpectedly and was there when the CraigsList date arrived and began knocking on the door.

That could be awkward. However, Gaylor was too quick thinking for that. He dialed 911 and reported a burglar was knocking on his door.

He also told police the burglar had a gun.

He ended up with no date and a summons for false reporting.

In Stow, Mass., 911 came in handy for Mark and Marcia Rosenthal, who ended up calling the emergency number because they were lost in an apple orchard.

WHDH-TV Boston said the couple first called the apple orchard store, then the local police, who advised them to call 911.

In Kissimmee, Fla., don't check out of your motel room without first scouring the room for those stray items that sometimes get left behind.

Allegedly, Latasha Webb, 22, and William "Chino" Schulz, 17, forgot to do that and you know how that goes. Gee, honey, we have to go back to the motel; it appears we left our crack in the room's freezer.

The motel's cleaning staff, however, found the highly addictive form of cocaine before they returned. Then, while police were investigating the matter of the found crack, the couple phoned the motel and said they wanted to return and, could they please have the same room?

Yes, they were welcome back, sort of, but police thought maybe separate rooms this time around.

In Marietta, Ga., it's hard to call it petty larceny when you steal 26 boxes of condoms.

Oh, and an ovulation test, and a box of baby wipes, a pack of cotton balls.

Where are we going with this?

Allegedly, Alexandrea Brooks swiped the items from a Walgreens, where staff took down the license plate of the car when she left.

Police tracked her down and found she has a thing for drug stores. Her last big heist? Allegedly stealing Oil of Olay from a CVS store.
