VERONA, Italy, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A retired construction worker is struggling to prove to the Italian government he is still alive.

Giulio Marchetto, 62, said he discovered when he inquired why he was no longer receiving his pension that the government had him listed as dead, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. Marchetto, who lives in Boschi Sant'Anna near Verona, is getting together the documents he needs to demonstrate he is still alive.

"I don't why they stopped paying someone who's alive when there are so many swindlers getting pensions from dead relatives around the country," Marchetto said.
