Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- New York City figures indicate 6.5 percent of couples who obtain marriage licenses, about one in 15 couples, do not go through with the wedding. City figures revealed 2,132 of the 32,794 couples who applied for marriage licenses and paid the $35 fee in the first half of 2011 did not go through with the ceremony within the 60-day period allowed by the licenses, the New York Post reported Monday. Advertisement "Cold feet are hard to measure because we can't tell with absolute certainty how many couples are just procrastinating marriage for months or years and how many are putting it off for good," City Clerk Michael McSweeney told the Post. "But normally, if you go as far as getting a marriage license, you actually get married." McSweeny said weddings occasionally fall apart at the city's chapel. "A mother who did not approve of the lady her son was to marry became so enraged, and things became so nasty, that the police had to be called in," McSweeny said of one famous incident.
