Man finds $150,000 in his garden

JOHNSBURG, Ill., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- An Illinois man who discovered $150,000 in two duffel bags in his garden said he turned the money in because he feared it could be from a robbery.

Wayne Sabaj, 49, of McHenry County near Johnsburg, said he was out in his garden Monday to pick some broccoli for dinner when he found a duffel bag filled with $20 bills, WGN-TV, Chicago, reported Wednesday.

"It wasn't my money," Sabaj said. "What am I going to do? I don't know where it came from. With my luck it came from a bank robbery, and I'd be charged with bank robbery."

Sabaj said he called the McHenry County Sheriff's Department and discovered a second bag when he went to show deputies where he picked up the first one. The money in the bags totaled about $150,000, Sabaj said.

Deputies said there haven't been any recently reported robberies in the area and the bags are being examined for fingerprints. They said a sheriff's department card was left in Sabaj's garden with a note asking the owner of the duffel bags to call.
