Emporia State University said it will try to get at least that many people to turn up at Welch Stadium Sept. 1 to learn Zumba, which the school described as a Latin-inspired "fitness party." Advertisement Officials with the school's Recreation Services and Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation said they want to beat the current world record for the dance-like exercise craze, set by 1,223 people April 30 at a University of Texas Houston School of Public Health event. "We want to encourage everyone in the community to come help us reach the record," said Whitney Runer, assistant director of recreation services at ESU. "And don't worry if you have never done Zumba before because no prior experience is necessary to join."
