MELBOURNE, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Some public transportation workers in Melbourne say they will refuse to wear newly designed uniforms that one worker said makes them "look like clowns."

Yarra Trams' new uniforms, to be introduced Thursday, have been in the works for the past year, The Age reported. During a meeting held Tuesday, many company employees voted against wearing the new uniforms.

Apparently, the tram drivers, ticket inspectors and customer service staff are not happy with the new designs, which, for drivers and customer service staff include bright green shirts.

''We look like we work in an ice-cream stand,'' one driver said Tuesday. ''They are trying to make us look like something we are not: customer service officers and not tram drivers. We look like clowns.''

Yarra Trams Chief Executive Michel Masson says he is pleased with the new uniforms, which took over 100 employee suggestions into account.

''During the design process, we took the time to consult with a representative group of employees from every part of the business,'' he said. ''We are delighted with the modern, stylish look.''
