CHICAGO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A Chicago man said he created an iPhone app to allow taxicab passengers in major cities to warn others about bad odors in the vehicles.

Adam Saffro, 32, said he was inspired to create the "Smelly Taxi" app when he entered a rather pungent cab near his home in the River North neighborhood, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday.

"It was literally the worst-smelling thing I've smelled in my life," Saffro said. "It was probably a combination of terrible body odor and urine."

Saffro said the app lets users rate the smell of their cab on a scale of one to five, with one being the worst, in the categories of odor, professionalism and cleanliness.

"It's free, it's fun," Saffro said. "It gives you something to do in a cab ... If word gets out, it might give [cab drivers] a little more reason to clean up their act or make their cabs smell better."
