LEHIGH ACRES, Fla., July 7 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a fleeing suspect was chased down and apprehended by a deputy driving a borrowed golf cart.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Richard Williamson responded to a report of domestic battery Tuesday in Lehigh Acres and the suspect, Jeremiah Ellarius Haynes, 25, fled on foot, the Fort Myers News-Press reported Thursday.

Williamson chased the suspect to a nearby gated community, where a resident at the gate loaned the deputy a golf cart. The sheriff's office said Williamson caught up to Haynes and used his Taser to stun the man when he attempted to flee again.

Haynes, who had led the deputy on a total 1.8 mile chase, was taken to the Lee County Jail on charges of battery and resisting an officer without violence.
