Royal Oak police said two of the 50 signs erected in April along the 26-mile stretch of road from Detroit to Pontiac have been stolen and the non-profit Woodward Avenue Action Association said it will attempt to deter future thefts by selling replica signs for $100 apiece starting in July, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday. Advertisement "We have a stock inventory of these [road signs], but we don't have many left," said Heather Carmona of the association. "So we want to say: If you want a sign like this, just buy one of our replicas." Carmona said the signs were installed as part of a scheme to promote Woodward as a tourist route for automobile history enthusiasts. She said they cost a total $43,000 to install. "We've ordered full-size replicas and we hope to have them available by early July," she said.
