A photo of the unknown couple lying on a Vancouver street, kissing passionately, with a baton-wielding police officer standing in the foreground and rioters in the background, became an instant sensation when it hit the Internet Wednesday night following the Canucks' loss to Boston in the Stanley Cup finals. Advertisement It turns out the kissers are Scott Jones, 29, of Perth, Australia, and his Canadian girlfriend Alex Thomas, a former student at the University of Guelph in Ontario, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday. Jones moved to Canada about six months ago and is working as a bartender as he seeks stardom as a standup comedian and actor. It turns out his initial fame is for his kissing. Jones' brother told the CBC the couple had been at the game and got caught in the violence afterward. "They were between the riot police and the rioters, and the riot police were actually charging forward, and Alex got knocked by a [police] shield and fell to the ground," he said. "[Scott] was comforting her and gave her a kiss to say, 'It's going to be OK,' and the photographer just took the shot at that moment." Advertisement He said Scott is fine and Thomas suffered a bruised leg from falling to the ground. He said the couple are "just totally stunned" by the reaction to the photo.
