NEW YORK, May 20 (UPI) -- New York City's alternate side parking rules will be suspended if the world ends Saturday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg promised Friday.

"I don't think you have to worry about returning library books or parking tickets" either, the mayor told WOR, New York, host John Gambling during his weekly radio appearance, the New York Daily News reported.

New York's bus shelters and subways have been plastered with ads warning the world will end May 21, as forecast by Harold Camping on his California-based Family Radio network.

Bloomberg was reassuring.

"The world should not end tomorrow," he said. "It can't end until at least the Knicks win a championship again … so we got a long time."
