Miriam Simun, 26, a student at New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program, said she purchased breast milk from three women and turned it into cheese with the help of Chef Sarah Hymanson for the exhibit at the Michael Mut Gallery in the East Village neighborhood, the New York Daily News reported Friday. Advertisement The "Human Cheese" exhibit, which opened Thursday and closes Monday, invites visitors to sample the final product. "I'm talking about how biotechnology is booming, and really invasive things are being done to people's bodies and we don't question it," Simun said. "We're using people's body parts. We're attaching machines to bodies. We treat bodies as machines. Women sell their eggs, they rent out their uteruses. "And cheese was actually the first-ever genetically modified food. Human cheese-making is just a way of talking about what it all means for the future," she said.
