CHICAGO, April 27 (UPI) -- Authorities in Chicago said a man on crutches attempted to flee from a courthouse prior to his bond hearing on residential burglary charges.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office said James Roesch, 49, was able to sneak out of the hearing room and leave the Cook County Criminal Courts Building through the lobby Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

Witnesses said Roesch dropped the crutches outside of the building and began to run with a limp. However, deputies soon caught up with him and took him back into custody.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Liane Jackson said authorities will seek felony escape charges against Roesch.
