FORT MILL, S.C., March 21 (UPI) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a pair of electronic road signs were tampered with to warn motorists of "zombies," "hunters" and "tanks."

Lance Cpl. Billy Elder of the Highway Patrol said the signs on S.C. 160 near the border of York and Lancaster Counties were altered sometime before 4 a.m. Sunday to scroll the messages "Zombies Ahead," "Watch for Hunters" and "Be alert for Tanks," The (Rock Hill) Herald reported Monday.

"I don't know if the signs got hacked remotely or if someone tampered with them on scene," Elder said.

Elder said the South Carolina Department of Transportation was notified and the signs were shut off Sunday night.
