PARIS, Texas, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A Texas man says he'll return a library book his family checked out in 1937.

Dave Bradshaw, 61, a Paris News columnist who initially referred to the keeper of the book as "the old man" before admitting it was himself, said he is looking into options for returning the book to the Lancaster public library by Dec. 16, which would be exactly 73 years since it was checked out, The Dallas Morning News reported Friday.

Bradshaw said the book, "Three Centuries of American Poetry and Prose," was likely checked out by his mother in 1937.

He said the library agreed to accept the book back with some canned goods in lieu of late fees, but he is hoping the library will take it back "ceremonially" and allow him to pass it on to his grandchildren.

He said he is determined the library will get the book back, one way or the other.

"There's a clear obligation -- you take something and promise to bring it back and then you don't," he said.
