PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- An 85-year-old Florida man who pulled a gun on his neighbor over the alleged theft of bananas faces a felony charge, police say.

A 58-year-old resident of Port St. Lucie told police Wednesday he was cleaning up branches and yard debris in his back yard when his neighbor accused him of stealing bananas from his tree, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Joseph Giacomo, 85, allegedly pointed a pistol at his head and threatened to kill him, the neighbor told police.

Giacomo told police he confronted his neighbor along the fence line that divides their properties and asked him why he was carrying a "big stick."

"Mr. Giacomo believed that (his neighbor) was using the stick to knock bananas off of his tree and keeping them for himself," a police report said.

The neighbor denied allegations of banana thievery and Giacomo left the yard and returned to his house.

Police responding to the incident arrested Giacomo on a charge of felony aggravated assault with a firearm.

He was released Thursday on $2,500 bail, police said.
