NEW YORK, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- New York transportation officials said an oft-stolen street sign bearing the name of late punk rocker Joey Ramone was moved to deter future thefts.

The officials said the "Joey Ramone Place" sign in the East Village was moved 20 feet above the ground, NY1 reported Tuesday.

The sign, named for the front man of The Ramones who died of Lymphoma in 2001, has been one of the most frequently stolen street signs in the city, officials said.
