Police: Woman hit another mom in school

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Authorities said a Tampa, Fla., mother has been arrested after she allegedly walked into an elementary school cafeteria and attacked another mother.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said Reginene Legette, 42, allegedly approached the Westchase Elementary School table where the 8-year-olds were eating their lunches and repeatedly punched Mickey Carney, 41, on the left side of her face, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Wednesday.

Deputies said Legette ignored their orders when they arrived and hit a deputy in the chest while attempting to flee. She was apprehended after scuffling with another deputy and spouted profanities at the deputies as they escorted her through the school in handcuffs, they alleged.

A cold bottle of wine was found in Legette's purse, the deputies said.

Legette was charged with trespassing on school grounds, disorderly intoxication, disrupting an assembly, battery striking or touching, two charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and obstructing or opposing an officer. She was released after posting $5,750 bail.

Carney was taken to a hospital with swelling to her face and head. The report gave no motive for the alleged attack, but a school district spokesman said both women have children at the school.
